JTTRI is an independent non-profit organization, estabished in 1968 as an affiliated organization of the Ministry of Transport (now Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Tranport and Tourism) with the support of the government, industry and academia in Japan. Since its establishment, JTTRI has contributed to the development of the administration, businesses, and industries as well as academic research in the field of transport and tourism, through surveys and researches, policy recommendations, holding seminars and symposiums, dissemination and provision of information on important issues of the time, cunsulting business (entrusted research) , and publishing books, while maintaining close rlations with the Japanese government, trasnport and tourism industries, and academic societies.
More than 40 researchers in the domestic or overseas universities are come from JTTRI.

[Work content and job description]
We want researchers with a doctorate who conduct analyses in the field of transport and tourism concerning modern topics such as mobility including public transport, town planning, logistics, harbors, aviation, decarbonization, based on analytical methods using mathematical statistics in science and engineering. In principle, they will obtain results from individuel researches in which they engage themselves with theme they set. In addition, they are expected to contribute to group researches, which are listed in JTTRI's annual business plan,making use of their speciality. Depending on their aptitude, it is otherwise possible for them to focus their activity on group researches which are conducted with collaborative companies.
As members of the private research institution which is independent from the administration, the researchers are in a position to work out policy recommendations, based on the results of their research in and out of Japan, and to share and deepen their knowledge in collaboration with the industry, administration and academics.
JTTRI is composed of researchers with a wide variety of backgrounds, such as multiple researchers with a doctorate from literature and science, researchers seconded from the public and private.

Job content supplemental explanation:The global economy and society has become uncertain and mobile, and its environment as well as people's sense of values and behavior is drastically changing due to the progress of digital technologies and the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Under these circumstances, we always keep in mind the purpose of for which JTTRI was established, "bridging academic research and practical demands", and are committed to producing useful and usable research results and policy recommendations that contribute to address challenges the modern society faces or will face in the future. We are conducting broadbased and strategic activities with a view to the Indo-Pacific region, from North America, taking into account of European movements.
Researchers with a doctorate are expected to cunduct a wide range of activities with a fucus on research and presentation of its results, based on their advanced research abilities and making use of the institution's prominent domestic and international networks with academics and practitioners.
