OVERVIEW OF POSITION
Temple University Japan invites applications for a full-time faculty member with a specialization in Japanese Language Pedagogy. The position is open rank: senior scholars may be hired at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. This faculty member will teach and design courses primarily within the Japanese Program, although they may also be invited to teach other undergraduate courses in their areas of expertise. This new position will oversee the curriculum and pedagogy of the program in order to best meet the needs of TUJ’s students in today’s global and technological environment. As such, it is imperative that candidates demonstrate expertise in contemporary research and practice of second language acquisition. Demonstrated excellence in teaching is essential.

Our ideal candidate is a passionate teacher and researcher of teaching Japanese as a second language. Given the interdisciplinary nature of language education and the current makeup of our program faculty, we will consider candidates who are trained in Ph.D. with roots in the fields of Japanese second language pedagogy, Japanese applied linguistics, and education, linguistics, or other multidisciplinary studies that provide a foundation for the effective teaching of our students. Possible specializations include but are not limited to: culture and education, cognition, teaching and learning, bilingual education, and Japanese language education in Japan. We welcome applications from candidates with an interest in all areas of Japanese language education, but we require knowledge and experience in US higher education.
