Number of positions: 1 (uno/one)
Period of employment: 24 (twenty-four) months
Department: Department of Civil, Environmental, Land, Building Engineering and Chemistry (DICATECh)
Place of work: Polytechnic University of Bari
Name of project: Characterisation of harbour/coastal sediments and mussel shells: innovative solution for their valorisation
Referent of project: Prof. Leonardo Damiani
Details of project: The activity concerns the scientific and technical support as well as the project management activities in the framework of the ongoing projects of the Department. The project activities concern
a) study of sustainable solutions for the management of harbour and coastal sediments resulting from dredging activities, as well as the valorisation of aquaculture waste (mussel shells, tunicates, etc.), but also the application of green technologies to treat natural materials of various types. The research activity aims to assess the technical feasibility of different innovative solutions for the recovery and on-site reuse of dredged harbour sediments and shells, which will be valorised as 'secondary raw materials' for the production of sustainable by-products through an optimised mixing technology.
b) Activity of project management in the framework of agreements undertaken by the Department concerning research and development project in the field of innovative materials, technologies and processes. Specifically, the activities include two main components: • an experimental part aimed at studying the chemical, chemical-physical and geomorphological characteristics of such materials (sediments, mussel shells and other marine waste), evaluating the chemical characteristics also of mixtures of such materials with traditional hydraulic binders. • and a technical-scientific coordination activity and project management relating to management of sampling procedures of environmental matrices and innovative materials developed in the framework of the research, the choice of the best techniques for the characterization of the materials under study, coordination between the various laboratories involved in carrying out the experimental part, monitoring of management procedures in accordance with current regulatory provisions.
