Offer Description

We are seeking a researcher passionate about sustainable transportation and electric mobility to join our research group as a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow. As a postdoctoral research fellow, you will be involved in research activities on electric propulsion systems, energy storage systems, and artificial intelligence. The role is primarily located in Cagliari, with flexibility for some remote work.

About the job

Position: Postdoctoral research fellow (assegno di ricerca)
Project title: Electric propulsion system optimisation based on artificial intelligence algorithms and real-time simulations
Duration: 12 months
Gross Salary: € 25,177

Role description

As part of our team, your main responsibility will be to develop a methodology to design the electric propulsion system of electric buses optimally using artificial intelligence algorithms and real-time simulations. At first, this will involve conducting a data-driven analysis of a given bus fleet duty cycles to identify the most interesting case studies. Afterwards, you will collaborate on the development of an artificial intelligence-based algorithm to select the most appropriate architecture of propulsion and charging systems, along with their key components for each case study and in accordance with specific technical and/or economic objectives. You will focus on electric propulsion systems equipped with hybrid storage systems (integration of hydrogen, battery, supercapacitors, etc.) and inductive charging systems (stationary and dynamic), as well as on the development of energy management strategies utilizing artificial intelligence algorithms. Real-time simulations will be extensively used for methodology development and validation.

You will work within the PRIN national project OPTEBUS: Development of an OPtimal design Tool for Electrification of urban public transportation BUS services. The project aims to develop an optimal design tool that supports decision-makers in electrifying urban public transportation. By utilizing an integrated data-driven approach, you will contribute to the optimization of electric propulsion system design and charging infrastructure planning.
