YOUR TEAM

You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where material, mechanical and electronic engineers, computational scientists, physicists, chemists, biotechnologist and biologists collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.

The Smart Healthcare Technologies Research line is coordinated by Prof. Massimo De Vittorio, who has extensive experience in the development of science and technology applied to nanophotonics, nanoelectronics and nano and micro electromechanical systems (NEMS/MEMS) for applications in the fields of life-science, energy and ICT.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • planning and carrying out the experimental activities in the framework of a technological platform aimed at the development and optimization of novel methods for in vitro transfection of mammalian and human cells models and T lymphocytes.
  • The activity is aimed at the implementation of advanced technologies for developing novel method for non-viral transfection based on photoacoustic and ultrasound technologies, gas vesicles and gene encoded ultrasound reporters. Within this position, you will design and conduct laboratory experiments, develop methodology and then interpret and utilize scientific data to further develop novel cell therapy platforms. 

This open position/research is financed by Ministero Della Salute within the PROGETTO HUB Scienze della Vita Regione Puglia - Biotecnologie, Bioinformatica e Sviluppo Farmaceutico – contratto n T4- AN- 01.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • PhD, or an equivalent post-graduation research experience, in cell biology or a related scientific area.
  • Master degree, preferentially in Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology, Biomedical Engineering (or related discipline). 
  • A minimum of 1 year of cell biology experience is preferred.
  • Documented experience in general lab skills including: sterile techniques, cell culture, development of cell-based assays and basic/common transfection techniques. 
  • Documented experience in cell handling required: maintaining cell culture, media preparation, generating and managing cell stocks and banking.
  • Strong publication record.
  • Ability to properly report, organize and publish research data.
  • Documented experience in coaching junior scientists.
  • Good command of spoken and written English.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Hands-on experience in the cell culture of primary and established human immune cells; 
  • Experience in adenoviral transduction and lentiviral transduction;
  • Expertise in vivo and in vitro models for CAR T cell development and functional characterization.
  • Strong understanding of the current landscape of the CAR T cell therapy space. Familiarity with gold standard analytic approaches. Familiarity with the current challenges that limit the efficacy of CAR T therapies in the clinic.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, and maxi and mini preps.
  • Familiarity with biochemical techniques such as, protein expression, protein electrophoresis, and western blots.
  • Fluorescence microscopy; confocal laser scanning and high-resolution microscopy.
  • Good communication skills 
  • Strong problem-solving attitude.
  • High motivation to learn.
  • Spirit of innovation and creativity.
  • Good at time and priority management.
  • Previous work experience in an international environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment.
