Offer Description
One post-doc position is available to work on the project “HHTime: HH searches at the HL-LHC exploiting Time information in event reconstruction”, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research under the PRIN 2022 program. The topic of the project is the optimization of the usage of precision timing information provided by the new MIP Timing Detector for the CMS experiment Phase II upgrade to enhance reconstruction of events in a high pileup environment. The candidate will contribute to develop new dedicated algorithms exploiting precision track timing to improve the quality of reconstructed physics objects towards a 4D global event reconstruction. The work will include the usage of Machine Learning techniques to boost the performance gain and will focus on one benchmark channel, the search for double Higgs boson (HH) production, to assess the impact of the developments.
The position has a duration of 12 months. Based on performance, the contract may be extended up to 12 additional months, or longer if funding is available.
Candidates are required to hold a doctorate degree in physics with a thesis relevant to the project topics.
Place of work: Milano or Trieste
Secondments to CERN and other CMS institutes of a maximum total duration of less than two months, subsidised by INFN, are foreseen.
