Project title:
Design and development of neuro-symbolic Artificial Intelligence techniques and their application to intelligent processing of biologica! data and knowledge on health and aging
Description of the research program:
The research program involves both fundamental and applied research in Artificial Intelligence. The fundamental research will focus on the study, development and implementation of AI and machine learning methods integrating deep learning techniques with domain symbolic knowledge and symbolic reasoning through, for instance, logie and automatic planning. The applied research activities will investigate the use of such methods and techniques for intelligent processing of biological and health data with the goal of creating automatic predictive models about the health of a person and possible problems relateci to her/his aging conditions.
Thc researcher will also need to autonomously develop scientific collaborations on a national and international scale, contributing to the preparation of funding proposals within the framework of calls for research projects funded by the Ministry of University and Research, the European Union, or other institutions.
The Department of Information Engineering (DII) will be the main workplace for the researcher; therefore, all activities carried out will be synergetic with the department's objectives. The research must also be consistent with the Strategie Plan of the University of Brescia, which places particular emphasis on the sustainability of scientific and technological progress.
