Offer Description
In recent years, maritime risk and its management have been the focus of historiographical interest, in part because of a well-established literature that urges looking at the sea as the context in which strategies to respond to uncertainty are most likely to be implemented. The research will be based on the study of archival sources and the collection of data on the use of different tools for managing risks in maritime trade (17th-18th centuries). This information will enrich the relevant existing databases and will allow both to understand the strategies implemented by the Genoese businessmen, and to map climate events that caused accidents in European seas, their intensity and frequency.
