Offer Description

This project addresses the stereotypes/prejudice towards women in a leader or follower position- Correlational and experimental studies will examine the role of the Need for Cognitive Closure as factor underlying as well as reducing prejudice towards women as leaders. Individuals with high NCC are usually more receptive to the dominant culture and to its norms, thus high NCC might lead people to be more prejudiced towards women leaders. Instead, frequent and positive contact with women in leadership positions might change these stereotypes and lead to the perception that women are competent leaders. These studies will employ implicit and explicit measures to assess the attitudes/evaluation of the targets and examine:
- the NCC effect on prejudice towards women as leaders
- the factors explaining the NCC effect
- the intertwined effects of NCC and positive contact with female leaders
- whether the positive effects of this contact experience might be transferred to secondary groups
