Offer Description
The aim of the research programme is to design and manufacture multi-material (metal-polymer) functional devices that minimise the need for assembly. The focus will be on the fabrication of functionalised metal structures to optimise joining with the polymer. The influence of surface roughness will be considered, as well as the possibility of realising interlocking micro-geometries on the surface of the metal structure directly during its production. The quality of the joints will be assessed using destructive and non-destructive testing techniques. The work will be carried out on different metallic and polymeric materials depending on the application of the device, including biocompatible alloys for surgical devices. For each combination of materials considered, the effect of the heat and finishing treatments required to achieve the final properties will be evaluated.
