We are looking for a PhD student to join our research group at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Faculty of Medicine, Israel, with a tentative starting date in January 2023 to decipher the molecular mechanism by which novel small molecule compounds promote healthy mitophagy and thereby healthspan.
In our group and within the Faculty of Medicine, you will find a scientifically stimulating environment with cutting-edge science and students from all over the world.
To explore the mechanism by which novel diamine molecules (patented by our lab) induce healthy mitophagy and, thereby, healthspan (for details, please see our recent publication https://doi.org/10.1080/15548627.2022.2078069 ), you will combine multiple methodologies.
You will conduct most of the research using the nematode C. elegans as a model system and in human cell culture employing state-of-the-art microscopy, genetics, physiological assays, and biochemistry.
Your Qualifications
M.Sc. degree in molecular or cell biology or related fields
hands-on experience in molecular and cell biology
Strong motivation to become an independent researcher
Excellent skills in spoken and written English
Previous knowledge of C. elegans and cell culture techniques are NOT mandatory requirements but will be considered an advantage.
A team player with a good sense of humor
What we offer you
The opportunity to explore one of the most exciting topics in science today. Namely, Aging Biology. And become a part of the effort to promote healthy aging by mitophagy rejuvenation in old tissues.
