Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher to join a multi-disciplinary group lead by Prof Joe Gallagher, University College Dublin and collaborating with Queen's University Belfast, University of Galway, Mzuzu University and the Malawian Ministry of Health. The overarching goal of this study is the identification and assessment of BIomarkers TO Predict pneumonia (BIOTOPE), in a low middle income setting, Malawi, Africa.
The successful candidate will be part of a research group comprising clinicians, computer scientists, research scientists, technical staff and postgraduate research students investigating and assessing the role of biomarkers in the identification of bacterial and viral pneumonia and the development of point of care tests for these conditions. The position is based in the Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research (UCD) and will involve the establishment, maintenance, and analysis of a clinical biobank for Pneumonia. The successful candidate will be proficient in the handling and analysis of clinical samples, including DNA, RNA and protein extractions and will have experience in laboratory techniques such as immunoassays (ELISA) and PCR.
The post holder will be self-motivated, technically competent and capable of working independently. They will have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work closely with others as part of a team, while taking personal responsibility for assigned tasks. The successful applicant will also be required to provide support to a number of different projects and will liaise with project partners and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, ethics and grant applications.
This is an advanced academic research role, building on your prior experience as a post-doctoral fellow, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.
The primary purpose of the role is to develop new or advanced research skills and competences, on the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications and scholarly dissemination, the development of funding proposals, and the supervision and mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
Post Doc Level 1 Salary Range: €43,908 - €50,302 per annum
Post Doc Level 2 Salary Range: €51,677 - €54,642 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
