The Department of Experimental Physics at Maynooth University is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Position in Astrophysics. The successful applicant will join the research group led by Dr Patrick Kavanagh focussed on studies of the matter cycle in galaxies. This position is funded through a Science Foundation Ireland-Irish Research Council (SFI-IRC) Pathway Grant.

The successful candidate will work on JWST observations of SN1987A and will be expected to contribute significantly to this research effort but with some time to pursue/develop their own independent research. The group actively collaborates with researchers in Europe and the United States and are currently engaged in research topics relating to stellar feedback and star formation using multi-wavelength facilities such as XMM-Newton and JWST. Dr Kavanagh is a member of the JWST Mid-infrared Instrument (MIRI) European Consortium.

Salary

Senior Postdoctoral Researcher (2023):     € 50,540 – € 54,965 p.a. (4 points, with increment)

Postdoctoral Researcher (2023):  €42,783– € 49,177 p.a. (6 points, with increment )

Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
