Updated: 3 months ago
Location: University College Cork, MUNSTER
Deadline: 16 Feb 2024

2 Years, Fixed-term, Whole-time Post

Position Summary

On behalf of University College Cork (UCC) and its research community and associated stakeholders, UCC Research is operationally responsible for identifying research funding opportunities, providing the necessary support to ensure that these opportunities are exploited to the full, and working closely with the research community to support all elements of the UCC Research & Innovation Strategy (http://www.ucc.ie/research/).

Of particular relevance to this opportunity, UCC Research also has responsibility for the development and implementation of policy that supports our research community, and which underpins and enables the delivery of the University’s Research & Innovation mission.

Open Research is transforming the world of research - greater openness and transparency in research activity and the outputs of that activity  are essential to ensuring excellence and delivering societal impact. And, as part of UCC’s commitment to driving the Open Research agenda and implementing an Open Research culture, the University is co-leading a 2-year project with Trinity College Dublin (TCD) to embed Open Research practices in Ireland.

Funded by the National Open Research Forum (NORF) and entitled “The Roadmap to Embedding Open Research Practices in Ireland (ABOARD)”, this project will bring together a strong national consortium of research-performing organisations, research-funding organisations and key researcher groups to engage in deep, iterative dialogue with key stakeholders across the Irish research landscape.

The ultimate objective of this project is to develop a detailed and concrete change process which will deliver coherent, system-level incentivising of Open Research, Responsible Research Assessment and the use of Responsible Research Metrics, and the transformational impacts that this change process will deliver for research culture in Ireland.

To drive the delivery of this important national project, UCC and TCD are seeking to recruit a full-time Research Support Officer to manage the project, and support the consultation process and output delivery.

The Research Support Officer will be responsible for engaging with all relevant stakeholders, for organising the consultation activities, for overseeing the production of project outputs and for general day-to-day management of the project.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for a range of communication efforts in support of the goals of the project, including a website that will host regular blogs, engagement with various platforms and channels available through the NORF website, and utilising the full range of Partner platforms including social media.

This is an exciting opportunity for highly organized, self-motivated and experienced professional who is passionate about the transformational potential of Open Research.

The successful candidate may be located in either Cork (UCC) or Dublin (TCD).
