Position Summary:

South East Technological University (SETU) is offering an exciting opportunity to work on a multidisciplinary role supporting Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).  The University plays a key role in Sustainability for its students, staff and other stakeholders, especially through its education and research mission, but also through its own actions as a public body.

Ireland is committed to ESD through following the Departments of Education and of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology guidelines for ESD across all levels of the education sector, in the 2nd National Strategy on Education for Sustainable Development - ESD to 2030. This strategy is aligned with the pillars of the UNESCO ESD Framework to 2030, which aims to transform learning environments across all levels, making them more inclusive and sustainable. The Departments have also issued a related a roadmap for success, ESD to 2030: Implementation Plan 2022–2026.

This role is funded under the Strategic Alignment of Teaching and Learning Enhancement (SATLE) Funding in Higher Education, administered by the National Forum in partnership with the Higher Education Authority. ESD is a key theme of the SATLE fund, recognising the unique position of higher education to positively impact the future of our world.

This role will contribute to the University-wide promotion of sustainability in teaching and learning and assist in the dissemination of ESD best practice, local, national and international. The Research Assistant will work with interdisciplinary colleagues from Quality Promotion, Education and Instructional Design.

 

Job Overview:

We are looking for a Research Assistant with a passion for Sustainability, Education and Public Engagement to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be working in a close-knit, inclusive environment with a supportive team that encourages creativity and collaboration.

The successful candidate will assist in the research and development of ESD supports for staff and in the creation, organisation, promotion and delivery of ESD events. This will involve researching best practice, working with multiple different stakeholders, presenters, venues, and a range of target audiences including SETU staff and students and the public.

 

Key Responsibilities / Duties:

  • To project manage sustainability projects from concept to completion.
  • Analyse the options for sustainability in education in partnership with the SETU Office of Quality Promotion and prepare innovative approaches.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with external sustainability-related stakeholders.
  • Be both creative and responsive in the delivery of new sustainability solutions for University staff.
  • Liaise and communicate effectively with SETU staff on sustainability matters.
  • To assist in the delivery of sustainability education and training to University staff.
  • Literature Reviewing, benchmark studies, report writing and documentation related to sustainability themes.
  • Creating design guides and systems to support ESD expansion across the University.
  • Attend project coordination meetings.
  • Any other duties as required by the Head of Quality Promotion
  • To provide suitable support to existing and future SETU sustainability projects.

Salary:

The Gross salary scale applicable to this post is: €30,025 - €39,908 p.a.

Five years post primary degree relevant experience.
