Post Summary

This research assistant will be recruited to participate in an ERC Advanced Grant research project entitled STONE-WORK. Taking stone as its focus, this will explore the trajectory of building materials from source to building site. The five-year project aims to analyse the relationship of stone sourcing, supply, working and consumption in eighteenth-century Britain and Ireland. To achieve this analysis of interdependence in architectural production cross-disciplinary research is required, combining architectural and craft history with geology and the findings of architectural conservation.

The project will involve the collaboration of architectural historians, geologists, craft practitioners and heritage stakeholders. This post will involve close collaboration and support of the PI on the European dimension of the research project, including secondary and primary research in architectural and craft history, requiring proficiency in at least two European languages. Writing and publication of articles, conference organisation and presentation, and digital dissemination of project activities will be required.
