Position Summary

The Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics at University College Cork (UCC) is looking for a highly motivated Post-Doctoral or Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher. The researcher will be employed on a learning analytics project using multimodal data for health professionals training. The successful candidate will be working with a team of researchers and clinicians on a range of topics, including learning analytics, multimodal data analysis and artificial intelligence for health professionals training. It is envisaged that the candidate will be located on University College Cork’s campus with travel to simulation training centres (the ASSERT Centre at UCC, and the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland, Merrion Sq., Dublin) when necessary.

The candidate should hold a PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline, with a good track record of publications. Ideally, they will have experience in Learning Analytics or related areas such as reliable AI and decision support and interpretation of video datasets. Candidates with a background in other areas such as the application of data analytics in healthcare and adult education will also be considered. A strong background in multimodal data analysis is expected, complemented with strong capacity for teamwork and project management. Experience with multidisciplinary teams is an asset.

The position is for one year. The successful candidate will be appointed at Post-Doctoral or Senior Post-Doctoral level depending on their experience and qualifications. A budget for travel, equipment, publications and other research expenses is available as part of the project.

The Research Group Leading this project is led by Prof. Ken Brown & Dr Harry Nguyen in UCC and is part of a national collaboration (comprising the Health Service Executive, Postgraduate Training Bodies and Centre for Research Training in AI) aimed at establishing a National Learning Analytics Unit for Health Professionals. The hired researcher will be encouraged to collaborate with other members of the group both inside and outside of UCC. There will also be ample opportunities to work with other partners in the Learning Analytics project including DCU and UCD, as well as with the group’s extensive network of international collaborations.

The group is part of the School of Computer Science and Information Technology, and the Learning analytics using multimodal data project is hosted by Prof. Ken Brown and Dr. Harry Nguyen at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics.

About Insight

The Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics (http://www.insight-centre.org) is an SFI funded Research Centre that brings together researchers from University College Dublin, NUI Galway, University College Cork, and Dublin City University, as well as other partner institutions, Trinity College Dublin (TCD), University of Limerick (UL), Maynooth University (MU) and Tyndall National Institute. It creates a critical mass of more than 400 researchers from Ireland's leading ICT clusters to carry out research on a new generation of data analytics technologies in a number of key application domain areas, such as Health and Human Performance, Smart Communities, Internet of Things, Enterprise and Services and Sustainability and Operations.

Salary: Post-Doctoral Researcher: €42,781- €49,177 p.a. (IUA PD1 Salary Scale), Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher: €50,540- €54,966 p.a. (IUA PD2 Salary Scale)
