Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science.
FRED (Food Resource Efficiency Decision Support) is an SFI Future Food Systems Challenge funded project that aims to create a decision support system for actors of Irish food supply chains that seek to reduce or prevent food waste. The project will use a stakeholder network and lifecycle assessment approaches to create a platform for actors to effectively evaluate the direct and indirect effects of interventions that aim at preventing or redistributing food waste. The project is led by Munster Technical University and co-led by University College Dublin (UCD). At UCD, the postdoctoral researcher will work with researchers from the School of Biology and Environmental Science and the School of Sociology. Furthermore, the project involves collaboration with FoodCloud. Established in 2013, FoodCloud is an award winning (Charity of the Year 2022) social enterprise that employs 86 people creating and delivering solutions tackling the twin issues of food waste and food insecurity by redistributing surplus food. It works with leading retailers, food companies, non-profit organisations, government and the wider business community to drive progress towards a circular economy for our food systems. The project will work within and expand upon the stakeholder network established by FoodCloud.
