Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a Natural Heritage Research Project Officer within UCD School of Archaeology
This 12-month Project Officer post supports the delivery of the ambitions of CUPHAT, a collaborative project, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Ireland Wales Cooperation programme 2014-2020. This project brings together three partners: University College Dublin (UCD), Aberystwyth University (AU), and the Dyfed Archaeological Trust and seeks to promote sustainable forms of heritage-based tourism in coastal upland landscapes that border the Irish Sea, namely the Wicklow Mountains and Blackstairs Mountains (in Ireland) and the Cambrian Mountains and Preseli Hills (in Wales). The overall aim is to use the cultural and natural heritage assets of these four areas to promote sustainable forms of tourism within them, thus leading to the creation of more sustainable livelihoods, communities, and environments.
The Project Officer will form part of the Citizen Science Work Package (WP3) team coordinated by the UCD School of Geography and will support the delivery of the natural heritage components of the project under the direction of Dr Claire Cave (School of Archaeology). The Project Officer will first be required to provide base level syntheses of the current state of knowledge of the natural heritage of the Wicklow Mountains and Blackstairs Mountains with a GIS framework. The Project Officer will engage in identifying potential citizen science activities to support local cultural and natural heritage and sustainable tourism. This will include developing links with schools and school children to encourage them to engage in citizen science activities and collaborating with project partners in UCD and AU to assist in realising citizen science activities.
