Applications are invited for a permanent  post of an Associate Librarian, Director of Collections and Digital Services  within  UCD Library.

The mission of UCD Library is to be a leader in enriching the student experience, to empower global engagement, and to act as an intellectual centre for the UCD community. UCD Library consists of five libraries, and UCD Special Collections, UCD Archives and the National Folklore Collection. UCD Library provides library and information services to UCD staff and students. UCD Special Collections, UCD Archives and the National Folklore Collection at UCD house collections of national importance for use by the UCD community and external researchers.

The Associate Librarian role is a leader in the strategic direction of the Library and holds key managerial responsibilities within UCD Library and serves as a member of the Library Executive. Furthermore, as Director of Collections and Digital Services in the UCD Library, the successful candidate will be responsible for all Collections (excluding the Cultural Heritage Repositories) and Digital Services of the Library.

The Associate Librarian, Director of Collections and Digital Services, will have overall responsibility for the areas of Library Collections including books, journals, databases, theses, maps, newspapers, reference collections, in print and digital formats, as well as Library IT services, and digital platforms and services including the Digital Library, the Research Repository and other digital repositories. They will provide leadership in scholarly communications and open access, as well as the development of the Library’s IT requirements and digital platforms and services. They will work with colleagues to articulate a strategic vision and operational plan that takes account of the University’s key priorities and the current Library Strategy. They will also contribute to capital development planning including leading on the curation and relocation of collections as required.

The successful candidate will be someone with vision and ambition, and a track record in leading change. They should have an established profile within the profession and be able to demonstrate their engagement with national and international professional activities. They will also be able to provide evidence of professional development activity to prepare them for a senior library leadership role. They will have knowledge of significant trends that impact academic libraries, as well as a deep understanding of the requirements to deliver a world-class library service. They will be resilient and flexible, comfortable with a fast-paced and changing environment, and able to work independently and accommodate uncertainty.

Following the launch of UCD Library’s new Strategic Plan, ‘The Library of the Future’, www.ucd.ie/library/contact/strategy  the library is currently reviewing how its organisational structure and physical spaces can best deliver its strategic priorities. Consequently, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate flexibility in their role and responsibilities as the library organisational structure changes.

95 Senior Administrative Officer III 2013 (2010) Salary Scale: €78,875- €111,338 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
