The Department of Sociology, School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Sociology (Economic and Organisational Sociology), to join us in September 2024. The Department seeks applications from academics who will contribute significantly to research and teaching excellence in the Department’s research streams on social inequality, migration and identity, conflict and social movements, and digitalisation and social networks: https://www.tcd.ie/sociology/research/. The appointee will be expected to contribute to graduate and undergraduate teaching and engage in wider public and policy debates, as well as to foster collaboration with other Departments in College and external research bodies.
We invite applications from candidates who have a proven track record in economic and organisational sociology with a research focus on work, labour, and organizations. We appreciate research profiles that can establish conceptual links between social structures on the meso-level of organisations and larger societal structures of inequality (e.g., along dimensions of gender, social class, or ethnicity). Additionally, we would like candidates who can provide theoretical and empirical insights into the micro-foundations of organisational behaviour and decision making (e.g., by drawing on behavioural science approaches).
We expect candidates to demonstrate a strong research orientation and associated research skills in their portfolio. Candidates are expected to have experience in the use of advanced quantitative methods such as rigorous causal inference, social network analysis, analysis of longitudinal data, comparative research designs, or innovative methodologies from digital social research.
The successful applicant will hold a PhD in Sociology (or cognate discipline) and have, relative to career stage, a track record of high-impact scholarship and publication in international, peer-reviewed journals and teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
