Post Summary

We seek to appoint 2 Assistant Professors in General Nursing. The primary purpose of this post is to contribute to general nursing teaching, research and administrative activities in the School. The successful applicant will have an established reputation in teaching and research in General Nursing and will be expected to contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in this field and in interdisciplinary curricular teaching, supervision and mentoring. This post provides an exciting opportunity to actively contribute to developments pertinent to general nursing in relevant research areas which are of strategic focus for the Discipline, the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin and contemporary society. The successful candidate will be expected to have a depth of knowledge pertinent to the role and will be expected to attract research funding and attain scholarly publication.

The appointee will be able to avail of an outstanding environment for education, research and scholarly endeavour, and will be expected to engage with new innovations and research initiatives within the Discipline of General Nursing, the Trinity Centre for Practice and Healthcare Innovation and the Institute of Population Health as relevant. They will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources within the School and College to support education, research and scholarly activities. The appointee will work closely with the Head of Discipline and other discipline members.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery at Trinity College Dublin has achieved substantial success and is nationally and internationally recognised as a leading contributor in the field of general nursing. The discipline of General Nursing is a pivotal force in meeting the extant and changing requirements of service users across the continuum of care and in the development of robust evidence and its translation into policy and nursing practice. Contemporary healthcare delivery is undergoing significant development and General Nursing is set to play a central role in leading and implementing resultant change. The post of Assistant Professor in General Nursing arises from the intent to strengthen and advance the School’s already leading position in meeting the related requirements of healthcare in contemporary society. The School requires a candidate to contribute to, and grow, the teaching and research activity within the General Nursing Discipline. The successful candidate will help to support and develop existing and where relevant new nursing and interdisciplinary curricula at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and support relationships with new and existing healthcare service providers in General Nursing. The General Nursing Discipline prioritises research collaboration with patients/clients, their families/caregivers, clinical partners in linked services and national and international colleagues, to identify research questions of local, national and global significance.

Please note that Garda vetting will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for the post.

Post status: 2 Roles - 5-Year Fixed-Term Contract, Tenure Track


Salary:

Appointment will be made on the Assistant Professor (Former pay scale name ‘Lecturer’) Merged Salary Scale (109BN) commensurate with qualifications / experience and in line with Public Sector Pay Policy (€39,469 to €95,441 per annum)
