CEU Library seeks a service-oriented, collaborative, and innovative colleague to develop scholarly communication initiatives at Central European University in support of the CEU Open Access Policy and the needs of a research-intensive University that seeks to disseminate its scholarship as widely as possible. It is an exciting opportunity to design and deliver an active program of expert advisory services for faculty and graduate students consistent with the requirements of the Office of the Pro-Rector for Research and Faculty, to whom the Library reports.

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about the scholarly communication ecosystem including repository services, funder mandates, publication workflows, open access publishing models, Creative Commons licenses, rights retention, ORCID and other research identifiers, and scholarly research metrics. 

The Scholarly Communication Specialist will collaborate with other library staff and campus academic support units including the Academic Cooperation and Research Support Office (ACRO), CEU Press, and Open Society Archives, as well as the Information Technology Department and Webteam.  Together, they support the use, visibility, and preservation of CEU publications and research data.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the successful implementation of the CEU Open Access Policy < https://documents.ceu.edu/documents/p-1103-2v2201 > and promote a culture of open access across the University. 
  • Plan, design and implement policies, procedures, and workflows for the daily operation of the CEU repository in compliance with international best practices and community standards.
  • Establish advisory services and support deposit, ingest, and disseminate CEU research outputs via the CEU repository and other trusted repositories.
  • Consult with CEU researchers to promote the retention and accessibility of their research output and solicit content.
  • Create web-based resources and conduct educational sessions that promote scholarly communication, open access best practices, and the visibility of CEU scholarship.
  • Assist and encourage the creation of researcher profiles to improve author and institutional research visibility.
  • Provide expert advice on the use of databases and tools such as Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar and researcher identifiers such as ORCID. 
  • Monitor professional developments in the fields of open science, repository services, and other emerging areas of scholarly communication to ensure interoperability with other initiatives and that essential new services are provided.
  • Represent CEU in external partnerships and networks such as CIVICA, the European University of Social Sciences, and OSUN, Open Society University Network. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Master of Library Science or master’s degree in relevant field of study.
  • A minimum of 3 years working directly with repositories or other aspects of the scholarly communication ecosystem.
  • Knowledge and experience with the research life cycle sufficient to provide expert advisory services to both junior scholars and top researchers in their field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of technical aspects of repositories, file formats, and standards for interoperability.
  • Enthusiasm for open access and providing quality services.
  • Ability to work across campus units and lead projects to completion.
  • Equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent English-language communication skills, spoken and written.

 

Advantages:

  • Direct experience with institutional repository platforms, such as DSpace.
  • An advanced degree in a discipline of relevance to CEU’s academic profile.
  • Experience with managing research data, open data, or data curation.

 

Compensation

The annual gross salary starts at 45,000 EUR/year. The actual final salary might be higher depending on the level of expertise of the selected candidate. The initial contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.
