Research Officer in Data Science for Advanced Therapies at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy (Ref.: 523980) 

We now invite applicants to join the Laboratory of Drug Delivery, Nanomedicine & Advanced Therapeutics at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy, LKS Faculty of Medicine. We are looking for a Research Officer in data science/bioinformatics/artificial intelligence in advanced therapies to work with a team of a highly motivated Global STEM Professor, Postdoctoral Research Fellows, PhD students, and a technician at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy, LKS Faculty of Medicine.

The aim of our lab is to use nanotechnology to better understand, diagnose and treat diseases with particular interest in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. We are a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary lab who like to create an impact on people’s lives taking research a step beyond the lab.  Research projects in the lab are in the areas of extracellular vesicles & cell therapy, immunotherapy, nucleic acids therapeutics for brain cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. The bioinformatics expertise of the appointee will help deepen our understanding of the high data contents associated produced from different projects and foster collaborations between projects on but not limited to understanding correlations between nanomedicines’ structure, bionanointeractions, e.g. protein corona and their function, single cell sequencing transcriptomics, proteomics data.   

The Department has an interest in activities ranging from drug discovery, medicines developments to medicines use. This post will also support pharmaceutical research in the Department to produce more effective and safer conventional and advanced therapies through incorporating data science, mathematics, engineering with science and technology.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to research projects in areas such as extracellular vesicles & cell therapy, immunotherapy, nucleic acids therapeutics for brain cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Utilize bioinformatics/DS and AI expertise to deepen the understanding and quantification of high data contents e.g. transcriptomics, proteomics, nano-string, single cell sequencing, immunohistochemical images.
  • Support pharmaceutical research in the Department to enhance the development of more effective and safer advanced and conventional therapies through the incorporation of data science, bioinformatics and/or image analysis tools.
  • Participate in clinical trials and laboratory projects.
  • Assist in managing research projects, including preparation of scientific publications and monitoring grant reports.
  • Perform data analysis to derive meaningful insights.
  • Provide general administrative and operational support, ensuring the smooth execution of research projects.
  • Initiate and contribute to grant writing and applications.
  • Liaise and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned to contribute to the overall success of the lab.

Requirements:

  • Possess a Ph.D degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biostatistics, Computation, Artificial Intelligence or a related discipline.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ pre-clinical, laboratory, and/or clinical research experience in applying data science or bioinformatics in pharmaceutical or health disciplines.
  • Demonstrate an excellent command of written and spoken English, and preferably Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua).
  • Advantageous to have experience in grant management and working in large groups.
  • Exhibit organizational skills, responsibility, attention to detail, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

What We Offer

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 1-year temporary basis or 2-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. The appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable. Other benefits include annual leave, medical benefits and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries.
