Research Assistant Professor in Language and Professional Communication (Ref. 240216004)
The Department of English and Communication within the Faculty of Humanities has a long history of conducting cutting-edge research in language and communication and producing high quality graduates for the professional workplace. With a team of around 27 full-time academic staff, our focus areas are professional communication and applied language studies, and we provide teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. The Department is now inviting applications for the position of Research Assistant Professor. Priority will be given to applicants with demonstrated record of research in the field of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) as applied to industries such as Global Aviation; Maritime and Logistics; Business Outsourcing and International Business Communications; Railways, Traffic, and Smart Cities; and similar settings. Experience in and familiarity with Generative AI applications to ESP is a plus.
Duties
The appointee will be required to:
- conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;
- provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;
- contribute to departmental service; and
- perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
- have a doctoral degree in (Applied) Linguistics, Language Education, English for Specific Purposes, or a related discipline;
- preferably have at least two years of postdoctoral research experience;
- have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of their field;
- be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and
- be highly proficient in written and spoken English.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two years initially, with possibility of extension.
