The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is the largest solar research institute in Europe. Our approximately 1,400 employees work towards a sustainable, economical, safe and socially just energy supply system based on renewable energies. We contribute to this with our research focus on energy supply, energy distribution, energy storage and energy use. Through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, company spin-offs and global cooperation, we are shaping the sustainable transformation of the energy system.

For our "Building Systems Technology" group, we are looking for a student assistant to write a Bachelor's, Diploma or Master's thesis as soon as possible.

One of our projects, funded by the European Commission, deals with modular refurbishment solutions for the building envelopes of the European building stock. The aim of our work package in the AEGIR project (aegirproject.eu) is to plan largely automatically integrated ventilation ducts for a modular construction kit for backside-ventilated rain screen or curtain wall facades (VHF). To achieve this, we use 3D models of the components and buildings, as it is usual in building planning, and place the air ducts manually in Autodesk Revit. In the future, the planning process for the façade-integrated ductwork from the ventilation unit to the rooms to be ventilated and back will be supported similarly to how this is already done today for the assignment of electrical circuit boards. For this purpose, the technical rules to be taken into account, which apply to air ducts, fire protection, statics and thermal insulation. To do so, they must be reformulated into mathematical conditions and then translated into a C# program code. Furthermore, the program to be created will be used to evaluate via the Revit API, which routing algorithms (Dijkstra, Maze, Moore Neighborhood, Scape routing, A*, MA*, IDA*) appear promising and which one is best suited for this task.
