The Chair of Hydraulic Engineering is hiring to your earliest convenience a new staff member for the Research facility of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) located in Obernach. You must be a committed and team-oriented postdoctoral/senior scientist (m/f/d) in the field of hydraulic engineering with a focus on hydraulic engineering testing Full time as soon as possible. The position is limited to 6 years. During this time, you should aim to successfully complete a habilitation process.

Your workplace:

The Research facility of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management in Obernach is a TUM research institute about 90 km south of Munich in the Bavarian foothills of the Alps, not far from Lake Walchen. It is one of the largest hydraulic engineering testing facilities in Germany with 15 permanent staff and special infrastructure. In addition to three large test halls, a large outdoor area can be used. The external test channels can be fed with flow rates of up to 3.5 m3/s for large-scale investigations up to 1:1 tests.

Your Tasks:

-       Independent basic and contract research in the field of hydraulic engineering with a focus on experimental methods in hydraulic engineering

-       Use and further development of modern experimental methods and measurement technology

-       Linking hydraulic engineering models with numerical simulations (hybrid modeling, basic knowledge of numerical modeling is desired but not mandatory)

-       Writing research proposals for basic research and assisting in writing offers for contract research

-       Writing scientific publications, organizing scientific events

-       Management of research projects, communication with research partners and clients

-       Supervision of doctoral students, exchange with scientists at the hydraulic engineering chair in Munich and at other institutes

-       Teaching activities: lectures, laboratory internships, excursions, examinations, supervision of student theses

-       General tasks at the research institute and chair

Your Requirements Profile:

You have a completed university degree (diploma or master's degree) in a relevant field as well as a completed doctorate in the field of hydraulic engineering with methods or questions relating to experimental hydraulic engineering. You are aiming for a scientific career. You have a positive attitude towards working in a diverse team, from craftsmen to scientists, and in a special location. You are expected to have proficiency level in German C2 for oral and C1 for written.

The employment takes place with appropriate remuneration in accordance with the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L). In principle, a free one-room apartment is available in the guest house on the test site. TUM is striving to increase the proportion of women.
