The Fraunhofer HHI is a world leader in research into mobile and optical communication networks and systems as well as the coding of video signals and data processing. The Department of Wireless Communications and Networks is recruiting research engineers in the area of wireless system design for 6G. The Group Technologies and Standards focuses on early investigation of emerging wireless technology components and their impact on standardization. Become a part of our team and join us on our journey of research and innovation!

What you will do

  • Contributions to design, development, performance evaluation and verification of novel communication schemes

  • Contributions to 3GPP standard Working Groups of RAN

  • Development of technical solutions and presentation of related proposals in standardization meetings

The areas of interest are:

  • MIMO, massive antenna systems, millimeter wave technologies and related protocol signaling aspects, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), or cell-free MIMO

  • AI-ML applied to the above technologies and related protocol signaling aspects

  • Integrated communication and sensing (ICAS)

  • Full duplex (FD) communication or flexible spectrum usage in aggregated bands

  • Sidelink, vehicular and device-to-device communications, and related protocol signaling aspects

  • RedCap or lndustrial loT-devices including hyper reliable and low-latency communication

  • cellular communication via non-terrestrial-networks (NTN)

The scientific work offers the possibility of a doctorate.

What you bring to the table

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical field

  • 1+ years of related experience or equivalent experience in wireless communications

  • 1+ years of experience working with 5G or 6G

  • Analytical and research skills

  • Self-motivated and proactive

  • Experience of working in international and multicultural environments and excellent communication skills

  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in wireless standards engineering

  • Experience in signal processing in wireless systems and standardization

  • Experience in vertical industries, in particular automotive or industrial loT

  • Experience on AI/ML modeling and simulation

  • Experience on link-level, system-level or network-level simulation

  • Publications in high-quality journals and conferences

The position is initially limited to 2 years. An extension is explicitly desired.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
