Future. Discover. Together.

The department "Wireless Communications and Networks" of the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich Hertz Institute, is conducting research in the area of wireless system design and system evaluation with a focus on future mobile communication systems (5G+ and 6G). The research group "Optimization and Learning for Communications" works in international research projects on modern signal processing and machine learning methods for mobile communications. The group collaborates closely with other groups in the department to evaluate and validate the theoretical output in real-world testbeds and laboratory setups. Be a part of our team and come on a journey of research and innovation!

What you will do

  • Conduct theoretical and applied research

  • Develop algorithms for signal processing and optimization at the physical layer

  • Possible research directions span different technical domains at the interface between signal processing, machine learning, optimization, and communication theory

  • Collaborate with leading academic and industrial partners of the recently formed German 6G Research and Innovation Cluster (https://6g-ric.de/)

  • Evaluation of novel ideas in real-world testbeds and laboratory setups

  • Dissemination of the research results in scientific publications, conferences/workshops, and to industrial partners

What you bring to the table

  • Completed academic university degree (Master/Diploma) in the field of communications engineering, computer science, electrical engineering or similar fields with very good grades

  • Analytical thinking and an independent and structured way of working

  • Comprehensive mathematical knowledge

  • Good understanding of convex analysis

  • Theoretical knowledge in signal processing, communications engineering and wireless networks (especially PHY and MAC layer)

  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) in English language

  • Good programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C, C++)

  • Team player, highly motivated, proactive and creative

What you can expect

  • Fascinating challenges in a scientific and entrepreneurial setting

  • Attractive salary package according to TvöD with 30 vacation days, pension scheme (VBL), wealth creation benefits (VWL)

  • Modern and excellently equipped workspace in a central location

  • Great and cooperative working atmosphere in an international team

  • Flexible working hours

  • Possibility for pursuing a PhD degree

  • Opportunities to work from home

  • Extensive training-, health- and sports offers
