Your Job:

In our team you will collaboratively work on:

  • Collaborative development of semantic artifacts in materials science, in a scale- and method-bridging approach for crystallographic defects description
  • Higher level alignment of semantic descriptions, intra- and inter- domain harmonization of metadata, e.g. through integration of resources in central information systems
  • General exchange with research data management activities, semantic and infrastructural engineering in the field of Material Science, e.g. within NFDI-MatWerk
  • Dissemination of developed tools and concepts within interest groups, workshops and training activities, as well as supporting the community with specific aspects of ontology development

Your Profile:

We are looking for highly motivated colleagues who are enthusiastic about creating better science through pragmatic solutions. For this you will bring:

  • University degree (Master, Diploma or equivalent) in Material Science or other adjacent fields (e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Computational Engineering, Computer Science)
  • A doctorate is desirable, but not mandatory
  • Strong computational background, including scientific programming skills (e.g. in Python)
  • Expertise in one or more of the following fields is advantageous: crystallographic defects, materials characterization techniques, continuum modeling, materials informatics
  • Willingness to learn new concepts and tools in the field of semantic technologies and ontology development (e.g. Protégé, OWL, SKOS, RDF, SPARQL)
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written & oral)
  • Ability to think analytically and conceptually as well as enjoying to work in an international and interdisciplinary team where development processes are driven cooperatively
  • Willingness to support scientists in research data and metadata management

You will be initially employed for a fixed term of 3 years but with the prospect of longer-term employment. Salary and social security benefits will conform to the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund), pay group 13, depending on your current qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks assigned to you.
