For our team we are looking for a Research Assistent (100%-position) in the EU-Life Project GeoBOOST (m,w,d) at the Chair of Hydrogeology TU Munich. Your task will be the investigation of technical and non-technical barriers for the implementation of geothermal heat pump systems in the European Union, working together with international experts. ABOUT US
The research group Geothermal Energy of the Chair of Hydrogeology is working in several projects with 13 col-leagues in the field of shallow and deep geothermal energy. The research focus is conduct complex analyses of relevant parameters to understand hydraulic thermal processes, develop innovative monitoring systems, evalua-tion and implementation methods like geothermal potential assessment as well as numerical reservoir modelling and the development of interfaces for practical uses. The Chair is leading the work package „Regulatory and policy frameworks with a focus on the Integration of the geothermal potentials in energy planning instruments in the EU-Project „Geo-BOOST“.
REQUIREMENTS
You have
- general experiences in the field of geoscience and geothermal energy, especially in shallow geothermal energy
- experience in the field of energy planning
- high interest in research work
- good english knowledge
- enjoy working in an international team
TASK
Your task will be the investigation of technical and non-technical barriers for the implementation of geothermal heat pump systems in the European Union, working together with international experts. Further task is the devel-opment of information, methods and tools mitigate the identified obstacles.
For this you
- work on data acquisition and analyses of existing geothermal heat pump systems
- developing concepts, platforms and tools for better information and reducing barriers with an international team
- participate at workshops and present your results
- give scientific talks at national and international conferences
- publish your results in international journals
WE OFFER
- a 100 %-position (E13) as research assistant at teh Chair of Hydrogeology at the TUM, starting immediately and limited to 31.12.2025

THE PROJECT
The GeoBOOST projects aims to assist the growth of geothermal heat pump markets in targeted regions by assisting the development of robust regulatory, financial, business model and upskilling workers frameworks. This allows regions to rapidly scale up investment in this vital renewable heating, cooling and storage technology to meet the EU’s revised 2030 climate and energy targets. It also ensures energy transition investments are made in local economies to benefit local regions, citizens and businesses.
The expected work and project outcomes are relevant to our strategic objectives and will facilitate:
- Decarbonisation of the existing building stocks
- Sustainable and skilled local employment
- Addressing of relevant non-technology market barriers
- Reducing the socio-economic impacts of dependence on imported fossil fuels
- Achievement of the EU’s revised 2030 climate and energy targets through tangible local investments and employment
