Research assistant/geothermal reservoir engineer (all genders welcome)
At the University of Göttingen -Public Law Foundation-, Göttinger Zentrum für Geowissenschaften - Abt.8-Strukturgeologie/Geodynamik, there is a position as
Research assistant/geothermal reservoir engineer (all genders welcome)
Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L/75%
to be filled. Starting date is as soon as possible. The position is limited to Nov. 30, 2027.
The Section „Applied Geothermics and Geohydraulics“ is a renowned research facility for geothermal energy at the Georg-August University of Göttingen, in which the research project "Dekapalatin" has recently started. The Dekapalatin project is funded as part of the exploration campaign by the 7th Energy Research Programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The joint project deals with the decarbonisation of heating grids for the provision of industrial process heat and municipal district heating at the pilot site in Wörth am Rhein by using deep geothermal energy. The scientific work of the University of Göttingen includes thermal-hydraulic modelling and the measurement, evaluation and interpretation of deep borehole data for model verification.
For this purpose, we are looking for a research assistant with experience in reservoir engineering. The position is suitable for a PhD in the field of "geothermal reservoir engineering and play type analysis".
Scope of tasks:
- 3D thermal-hydraulic (TH) modelling on regional and local scale for play type analysis
- Clarification of thermal anomalies, investigation of heat transport processes by numerical models for the central Upper Rhine Graben
- Iterative model runs of simulations based on discrete 3D reservoir models
- Geothermal potential analysis for medium-deep and deep geothermal energy for the Central Upper Rhine region
- Verification and validation of the geothermal play type "extensional terrains" to clarify recharge and discharge areas
- Participation in operational work: logging, core drilling, well testing on the Bertha1 deep well in Wörth am Rhein
- Evaluation and interpretation of borehole data for model integration
- Completed scientific university degree (Master's degree or comparable) in the field of applied geosciences or comparable course of study
- Experience in the simulation of thermal-hydraulic coupled reservoir processes
- Experience in analysis and optimisation of reservoir operation as reservoir engineer
- Knowledge in 3D geological modeling, e.g. with GoCAD or Petrel or comparable software
- Knowledge in the analysis and interpretation of hydraulic borehole tests
- Sehr gute Team- und Kommunikationsfähigkeit
- Fähigkeit zu eigenständigem wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten
- Eigeninitiative und gute Organisationsfähigkeit
- Experience in the Analysis and evaluation of geothermal parameter from borehole logs and/or seismic data
- Knowledge in using Python or MATLAB
