Offer Description

The University of Tübingen and Boehringer Ingelheim AI & Data Science Fellowship Program invite applications for:

Postdoctoral Research Fellow – AI & Data Science (f/m/d; E13 TV-L, 100%).

Medical and pharmaceutical innovation relies on clinical trials as a crucial quality control step. Most trials are delayed or altogether fail due to unrealistic trial designs. This project aims to fundamentally change how clinical trials are designed, and recruited for, by:

  • training and fine-tuning foundation models for trial design and matching,
  • reducing model hallucinations via retrieval-augmented generation,
  • providing additional context via multi-modal grounding.

This project will advance our basic scientific understanding of foundation models while having a considerable practical impact on life sciences.

Your host: Health NLP Lab, led by Prof. Carsten Eickhoff (https://health-nlp.com ).

Collaborating scientist: Carina Reinicke (Global Clinical Development & Operations) at Boehringer Ingelheim.

The ideal candidate  will bring:

  • a Ph.D. or equivalent in Natural Language Processing, Computational Linguistics, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, or a related discipline
  • demonstrated experience in machine learning, deep learning, and NLP techniques, in particular generative language models
  • proficiency in programming languages such as Python and experience with NLP frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • a track record of publishing in high-impact journals and conferences
  • excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

What this position offers you :

  • exciting research at Europe’s leading AI campus
  • access to state-of-the-art research facilities and computational resources -cooperation with a research-driven global pharmaceutical company
