The Climate Change and Health Intervention (CCHI) group at the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health (HIGH), led by Dr. Aditi Bunker is seeking a postdoctoral researcher and project manager to contribute to research on Food systems that support transitions to hEalthy And Sustainable dieTs (FEAST2030) https://feast2030.eu/ . FEAST2030 aims to facilitate a transition to healthier, more sustainable food systems for Europeans.

The CCHI Group investigates the effects of interventions and their effects on population health, environmental and economic outcomes using experimental and quasi-experimental methodologies. We provide evidence to citizens, governments and donors on uptake of interventions to support climate change adaptation and/or mitigation

The fellow will predominantly contribute to two streams of work:

Living lab interventions and persuasion studies: Lead the co-design of technology-based interventions with living labs, and subsequently test messaging strategies for improving access to healthy and sustainable foods and reducing food insecurity in vulnerable groups. Randomised control trial on shifting consumer food purchasing behaviour: Lead the design and implementation of an online trial - testing the effects of a ‘customized shopping assistant’ on the healthfulness, carbon emissions and moral dimensions of consumer food purchases.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage scientific activities, team members and administrative activities associated with FEAST2030 at HIGH. This includes managing/preparing the work package reporting, ethics, budget, milestones and deliverables
  • Co-design technology-based solutions with stakeholders and living labs spanning the food system
  • Support living labs to implement and scale community action platforms (CAxP) and eco food maps (EFM) in four living labs at different levels of maturity
  • Quantify the effectiveness of co-designed solutions for living labs using robust scientific methodologies
  • Lead the design, implementation and analysis of a trial testing persuasive messaging delivered through CAxP and their effects in reducing food insecurity and promoting healthier dietary intake in vulnerable groups
  • Lead the design and implementation of the myLabel online trial, and support the data scientist with analysis
  • Liaise with myLabel app developers to ensure the intervention is deployed to a high standard and on time
  • Prepare trial documentation and registration
  • Collaborate with data scientists to create the data management system for all FEAST2030 trials
  • Analyse data on label choices of individuals based on socioeconomic characteristics of individuals to inform the European Commission on food label policies
  • Contribute to dissemination of findings through writing high quality manuscripts, preparing presentations and presenting at conferences
  • Engage in proposal writing and networking
  • Contribute to grant writing
  • Collaborate on CCHI projects, and with our interdisciplinary team scientists with different backgrounds and expertise

Prerequisites

  • PhD in food systems, epidemiology or public health
  • Experience in co-designing and testing solutions using mixed-methods
  • Training and expertise in conducting experimental and quasi-experimental studies- Demonstrated skills in the use of qualitative and quantitative analysis tools for data management, analysis and visualization
  • Fluency in English in writing and spoken language
  • Ability to work and collaborate in an interdisciplinary team
