Job description:Postdoc (f/m/d) / Scientific Assistant (f/m/d) inductive sensor development

With cutting-edge research in the fields of ENERGY, HEALTH and MATERIALS, around 1,500 employees from more than 70 nations at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) are committed to mastering the great challenges facing society today.

The Institute of Fluid Dynamics is conducting basic and applied research in the fields of thermo-fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics in order to improve the sustainability, the energy efficiency and the safety of industrial processes.

The Department of Group Inductive measurement techniques is looking for a Postdoc (f/m/d) / Scientific Assistant (f/m/d) inductive sensor development.

The inductive measurement techniquesgroup at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden – Rossendorf, department magnetohydrodynamics, is developing technologies to detect and quantify three-dimensional velocity fields and bubble distributions in liquid metals and current distributions in electrified chemical reactors. This is achieved by contactless magnetic field measurements and the subsequent solution of the according inverse problem to reconstruct the quantity of interest.

The novel technologies can be applied to analyse geo- and astrophysical topics e.g., Rayleigh-Bénard convection of liquid metals, as well as to control industrial processes as continuous casting of steel and the production of hydrogen by electrolysis. The development of inductive measurement techniques comprises the design, construction and operation of suitable model experiments in the laboratory including the mathematical formulation and implementation of the inverse problem up to the technology transfer towards ready-for-use products.

Your tasks

# Development of the contactless inductive flow tomography (CIFT) to reconstruct three-dimensional velocity fields in liquid metals
# Design, construction and optimisation of experimental set-ups
# Execution and analysis of liquid metal experiments
# Optimisation of data acquisition routines
# Development of software algorithms to solve inverse problems (Python and C++)
# Development of measurement techniques to quantify the current distribution in chemical reactors

Your profile

# Completed university studies (PhD) in the field of electrical engineering or related field
# Experience in simulation of electromagnetic problems
# Experience in magnetic field measurements
# Experience with inverse problems desirable
# Interest in multidisciplinary work in an international environment
# Affinity to experimental work
# Programming skills in Python and C++ desirable

Our offer

# A vibrant research community in an open, diverse and international work environment
# Scientific excellence and extensive professional networking opportunities
# Salary and social benefits in accordance with the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD-Bund) including 30 days of paid holiday leave, company pension scheme (VBL)
# We support a good work-life balance with the possibility of part-time employment, mobile working and flexible working hours
# Numerous company health management offerings
# Employee discounts with well-known providers via the platform Corporate Benefits
# An employer subsidy for the "Deutschland-Ticket Jobticket"

We look forward to receiving your application documents (including cover letter, CV, diplomas/transcripts, etc.), which you can submit via our online-application-system.
