Job Code: SD006
Job Offer from March 04, 2024
The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (MPI CEC) in Mülheim an der Ruhr studies fundamental chemical processes for energy storage in chemical molecules. The Department of “Inorganic Spectroscopy” is presently looking for candidates for a Ph.D. student (m/f/d) or postdoc position (m/f/d) | Metalloenzyme-related inorganic spectroscopy.
The position is available immediately, but the starting date is flexible. The doctoral researcher will work on a 3-year-doctoral program and the postdoctoral position is initially for 24 months, with the possibility of additional one-year renewals. The successful candidate will be supervised by Prof. Serena DeBeer and will work closely with Dr. Kushal Sengupta.
Your tasks
The Department of Inorganic Spectroscopy at MPI CEC provides a unique environment, which brings together state-of-the-art experimental approaches with theory to understand challenging questions in energy research. The appointed researcher will be involved in biochemical and bio-physical experiments and spectroscopic characterization (including EPR and X-ray spectroscopic techniques) to elucidate the mechanistic pathway of enzymes like soluble Methane Monooxygenase (sMMO), Lytic Polysaccharide Monooxygenase (LPMO) or Nitrogenase. The researcher will also take part in analyzing data and preparing scientific publications.
Your qualifications
For the Ph.D. position, we require a Master's degree certificate in chemistry, and for the postdoctoral position, we also require a Ph.D. degree in chemistry. The candidate should have a background in basic inorganic chemistry and spectroscopy and a genuine interest in metalloenzymes.
Our offer
We offer an international, dynamic working environment in a renowned research institute, family-friendly jobs, and flexible working hours. The Ph.D. will be remunerated according to the Max Planck Society´s funding guidelines for junior scientists and the postdoctoral position according to TVöD (Bund) in line with your qualifications and professional experience.
The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase gender and racial diversity and therefore explicitly encourages applications from individuals belonging to underrepresented groups.
Your application
Your detailed application should include a cover letter with a description of past research experience, a curriculum vitae with the contact details of three referees, and a copy of your degree certificate. If we have aroused your interest, then please send your application preferably in digital form by 15th April 2024 stating the reference code “SD006” to both:
