Offer Description

The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is a modern university with a long-standing tradition in academic excellence and a wide range of international partner institutions. It is the largest university in Saxony-Anhalt with approximately 20.000 students, more than 3.000 employees, and a long-standing history in education spanning 500 years.

The Institute of Romance Studies in the Faculty of Philosophy II at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to a

Junior Professorship (W1) of Inter- and Transcultural Studies (Tenure Track W2)

This junior professorship with tenure-track to W2 is funded by the Joint Federal Government-Länder (federal states) Tenure-Track Programme and is therefore particularly targeted at early career researchers.

We are looking for a personality who can build bridges between different linguistic and cultural areas and has an explicit research focus on French and Francophone cultural studies. A second focus in research and teaching should be on the theory of inter- and transculturality, encom-passing various cultures in a cross-lingual and comparative perspective.

Teaching requirements include courses in the BA- and MA degree programmes of the institute, in all degree programmes for future teachers of French, as well as in the interdisciplinary BA- and MA degree programmes in Intercultural European and American Studies (IKEAS) of the Faulty of Philosophy II, in which the institutes of English, German, Romance and Slavonic Studies are involved.

Candidates are expected to cooperate closely across these and the other disciplines of the faculty in research and teaching, to enhance the faculty’s interdisciplinary profile, particularly in cultural studies as well as the profile area "Knowledge Cultures and Education" at the university (especially by participating in the conception of a new interdisciplinary cultural studies Master's programme), and to actively further the internationalisation of the university.

Cross-faculty cooperation with neighbouring disciplines (e.g. ethnology, philosophy, history, art history) is also expected, as well as active participation in the university's key research areas and in the interdisciplinary research centres which the Faculty of Philosophy II is involved in.

Further duties and responsibilities are stipulated in section 34 of the Saxony-Anhalt State Law of Universities.

Applicants must fulfill the requirements of being appointed according to Section 40 of the Saxony-Anhalt State Law of Universities. In particular, the prerequisites for employment are a completed university degree, pedagogical ability and a particular aptitude for scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by the outstanding quality of a doctorate. As a rule, the time period between the final doctoral degree examination and the application for this junior professorship should not exceed six years.

Junior professorships are filled on the basis of a temporary civil service contract, initially for a period of three years. The position shall be renewed for a further three years conditional upon a positive mid-term evaluation.

The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is committed to diversity and aims to create an inclusive environment where our staff and students feel valued and inspired. In particular, we aim to increase the proportion of women appointed as permanent staff; therefore, appropriately qualified female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for this position.

The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg strives to provide an environment compatible with work-life balance and has been certified as a family-friendly university since 2009.

Applications from candidates with severe disabilities are particularly welcome, and will be given preference in the event of equivalent qualification.

Applications are accepted electronically via the appointment portal of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg at: https://berufungsportal.uni-halle.de / by 19.03.2024.

Should you have any questions, please contact the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy II, Prof. Dr. Susanne Voigt-Zimmermann, Tel.: +49 (0) 345-55 23500. E-Mail: [email protected] . Please note: Applications to her E-Mail address will not be considered.

The job announcement is subject to possible budget constraints. Please note that the University is unfortunately unable to reimburse costs associated with the application.
