Internship - Teleoperation Setup for Mobile Service Robot

In the Household and Assistance Robotics working group, we are advancing the field of mobile service robotics. Exemplary applications include the disinfection of surfaces (https://youtu.be/9oL-HBVpTVI), pick-up and delivery services in nursing homes (https://youtu.be/WfmWdl5idvY), or machine tending and maintenance in factory plants (https://www.maschinenmarkt.vogel.de/ein-mobiler-manipulator-haelt-maschinen-selbststaendig-fit-a-420df5e730c3bf5d6d75170c4aa50a86/).
To feed our AI-based perception algorithms and planners for actuator movement in manipulation, we want to use human teleoperated demonstrations. The primary responsibility of your role is to set up and test the teleoperation system for our mobile service robot.

What you will do

  • Assembling and connecting the control setup to the real robot based on the guidelines from the GELLO publication (https://wuphilipp.github.io/gello_site/)
  • Conducting thorough testing of the teleoperation system with our robot
  • Developing and integrating a mobile base movement controller, building upon our concepts
  • Integrating AR/VR technologies into the setup
  • Collaborating closely with our team to refine and enhance the robot's functionalities

What you bring to the table

  • A background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Strong proficiency in software development (experience with ROS is a plus)
  • Basic skills in electronics and hardware assembly is a plus
  • Enthusiasm for mobile robotics and innovative technology
  • An independent work style, with fluency in English or German

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
