The Small Animal Clinic of the Animal Hospital Freie Universität Berlin is one of five university clinics for small animals and pets in Germany and acts as the central university contact for veterinary-clinical services in the field of small animal and pet medicine in the Berlin-Brandenburg region with its more than 6 million inhabitants.
In addition to our comprehensive teaching and research activities, we focus on the medical care of all types of small pets and small wild animals.
As a clinic, we offer a 24-hour emergency service 7 days a week and are looking for active support.
A wide range of applications and the unique environment in Berlin ensure an interesting and diverse field of activity in teaching, research and service.

Job description:
• Organizing and providing veterinary (surgical) care of surgical patients; attending to outpatients and inpatients in the field of small animal surgery
• Independent teaching in accordance with the German Teaching Obligations Ordinance (LVVO) in the field of canine and feline surgery, including lectures, propaedeutics, clinical rotations, emergency courses, and elective duties
• Giving examinations in surgery (state examinations) and propaedeutics
• Professional involvement in the training of residents and in obtaining the qualification of veterinary specialist in surgery
• Research in the field of small animal surgery

Requirements:
Specialist veterinarian for small animal surgery or Diplomate of the European / American College of Veterinary Surgery; doctorate in veterinary medicine; veterinary license as well as at least three years of experience in veterinary medicine in a full-time employment after the attainment of the university degree.

(Professional) Experience:
• Substantiated theoretical and practical knowledge of small animal surgery and related disciplines
• Relevant practical experience in trauma and soft tissue surgery, in running a surgical consultation, and in managing surgical procedures
• Knowledge of general hospital hygiene and infection prevention as well as knowledge of the applicable anaesthetic and pharmaceutical legislation
• Experience in teaching and the training of specialist veterinary surgeons / residents of the European College of Veterinary Surgery
• Relevant experience in the field of scientific publishing
• Knowledge of quality management (including knowledge of good scientific practice and good veterinary practice GVP)
