The International Relations professorship is mainly concerned with the comparative analysis of global or regional international organizations (IO), regime complexity, and explanatory research on international norms and international negotiations. A particular focus is on theory-based, methodologically sound empirical analysis.
We are a research-active team and the professorship encompasses the following externally funded projects:
1. "The exit of states from regional organizations. A comparative analysis" (funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG))
2. "Performances of Forest Governance of Regional Regimes - A Comprehensive Comparative Analysis" (joint project with Prof. Dr. Daniela Kleinschmid (University of Freiburg), funded by the DFG)
3. "The secret life-changes of norms: A comprehensive analysis of norm change" (together with Prof. Dr. Ulrich Petersohn (University of Liverpool), funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC))

Job description:
- collaboration in teaching

- support in setting up an e-learning portal on political science methodology
- supporting the professorship with oral examinations (taking minutes, etc.) and written examinations (support in organization, supervision, corrections)
- carrying out own research
- engaging in publication activities
- supporting research projects based at the professorship
- participation in the academic self-administration of the department
- participation in the academic self-administration of the professorship

The position offers the opportunity for further academic qualification (e.g. through a monograph or journal publications, and/or habilitation).

Requirements

- Completed academic MA degree in political or social sciences and a completed PhD in political science

(Professional) Experience:
- thematic focus of previous teaching and/or research work in the sub-area of International Relations (IR) of political science
- documented research and publication activity, proven by peer-reviewed publications in the field of IR in relevant English-language journals or published monographs with relevant academic publishers (double-blind peer review)

Desirable:

- thematic focus of previous research in the field of International Relations (IR)

- very good track-record of research and publication activities, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in the field of IR in relevant journals or with academic publishers (double-blind peer review)

- very good knowledge of IR theories and institutional design approaches as well as in the thematic research areas of the professorship, in particular with regard to the comparative analysis of global or regional international organizations (IO), regime complexity, and/or explanatory research on international norms and international negotiations

- high expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods and explanatory research design

- very good skills concerning Stata or R and/or MaxQDA or Altlas.ti

- very good command of German and English

- teaching experience in the field of IR and/or explanatory methodological approaches in political science as well as experience in acquiring own third-party funding (travel grants, etc.) and/or academic self-administration (committees, scientific reviews for journals, etc.) are off advantage, but - especially for applicants who have just completed their doctorate - not a prerequisite for employment
- experience in designing surveys and corresponding programs (especially UniPark) is also an advantage, but not a prerequisite for employment
- interest in collaboration with one of the professorship's third-party funded projects is an advantage, but not a prerequisite for employment
