The Institute Solar Fuels is looking for

Doctoral Student (f/m/d) for the Development of Thin Film Photocatalysts for Solar-Driven Oxidation Processes

Your Tasks

  • Synthesis and characterization of metal oxide-based thin film photocatalysts on porous substrates.
  • Functionalization of the photocatalysts with selective oxidation (co)catalysts.
  • Investigation of photocatalytic conversion of molecules like glycerol to higher-value products and identification of performance bottlenecks.
  • Develop strategies to improve the energy conversion efficiency, product selectivity, and stability.
  • Develop methods that allow upscaling of photoelectrodes to sizes suitable for a demonstration reactor.
  • Drive collaborative efforts with internal and external partners and publish the results in peer-reviewed journals and present them at (inter)national conferences.

Your Profile

  • Master's degree in materials science, physics or chemistry
  • Strong background in (photo)electrochemistry and/or photocatalysis
  • Good understanding of semiconductor physics
  • Experience with gas phase- or solution-based thin film deposition techniques
  • Passion for research and the ability to work independently
  • Good self-organization and teamwork skills
  • Good spoken and written English communication skills

Fixed term contract for 48 months. Payment is made in accordance with the collective agreement for public service (TVöD-Bund).
