The Göttingen State and University Library (SUB Göttingen) has been involved in national and international projects in the fields of data analytics and open access for many years.
In this context, a position
Data Analyst (m/f/d)
-E13 TV-L, full-time, temporary
at the SUB Göttingen full-time (currently 39.8 hours per week) to be filled as soon as possible. The position is suitable for part-time work and is limited to 31st December 2026.
As a Data Analyst, you will support the work in third-party funded projects. The focus is on supporting bibliometric research and its application in libraries with a focus on open access. To this end, you will provide data from various sources in a data warehouse and evaluate them. You will also teach computational skills to empower librarians preparing, negotiating and implementing open access agreements.
Your specific tasks include
1) Collaboration in the BMBF-funded Kompetenznetzwerk Bibliometrie
- Analysing data on open access publishing from various sources
- Collaboration in the development of an open bibliometric database about research in Germany with a focus on open access evidence
- Collaboration in the preparation of application-oriented information science research articles
2) Collaboration in the DFG project "Data practice for shaping the open access transformation - analysis, recommendation, training & networking (OA data practice)"
- Analysing transformative agreements with regard to the provision of open metadata and data-analytical research services
- Design, development and testing of a Carpentries curriculum for the application-oriented analysis of open access publishing
- Contributing to the development of strategic recommendations
Expected
- University degree (Master's or comparable degree)
- Experience in data analysis e.g. with SQL, Python or R
- Knowledge about scholarly communication and open access
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Very good communication and presentation skills
- Very good knowledge of English
Desirable
- Knowledge of the structure and use of bibliometric databases
- Experience with cloud computing services
- Knowledge of quality assurance procedures in statistical programming
- Knowledge of the Carpentries initiative
- Involvement in open source / open science communities
