We are looking for a
Biophysicist (m/f/d)
To further strengthen the MPI-CBG’s focus on innovative biophysical experiments we are seeking a highly motivated and service-oriented biophysicist who will join our Advanced Imaging Facility (AIF) and Biophysics Core Facility (BCF). The successful candidate will support biophysics projects spanning all scales from molecular processes to the development of entire organs and organisms.
The AIF/BCF provides researchers at MPI-CBG with access to high-end microscopy and biophysical measurement tools that may not yet be commercially available. Recent instruments provided by the facility include several custom-built light sheet microscopes, a large volume imaging microscope and several optical tweezer setups. To ensure MPI-CBG provides its researchers access to the latest innovations in biophysical and biological imaging, the AIF/BCF scouts for emerging technologies, builds and maintains advanced biophysical setups and light microscopes, and supports scientists with measurements of physical parameters such as forces acting on the cellular level, the stiffness of tissues, and flows / flow fields within developing embryos.
Main responsibilities:
- Provide scientific consulting on biophysical workflows to researchers
- Train users on and provide technical support for biophysical instruments including optical tweezers, laser cutters and nanoindenters located both within the facility and in individual labs
- Support scientists with the analysis of biophysical data to extract physical properties and variables
- Contribute to the development of new technologies by acting as a knowledge hub for custom builders within the institute
Your qualifications:
Candidates should have a doctoral (Ph.D.) or Master degree in physics, biophysics or related subjects and a strong background in the measurement of biophysical parameters. Expertise in at least one of the relevant techniques (optical tweezers, laser cutters, nanoindenters), as well as imaging of biological samples, and analysis of biophysical data is essential. Due to the interactive role of the position, good communication skills and an excellent command of the English language are required. The candidate should be a proactive, self-motivated, flexible, organized, service-oriented, team player willing to support scientists with basic and advanced aspects of biophysical experiments and motivated to expand her/his knowledge in new microscopy and biophysical techniques.
Our offer:
- We offer a diversified job in a young, scientifically oriented, international team in one of the most renowned research institutions worldwide
- Salary and social benefits corresponding to qualification and experience up to salary group E13 TVöD Bund (German civil service tariff)
- Attractive pension plan via VBL (Federal and State Government Employees' Retirement Fund)
- Discounted job ticket (VVO) and good public transport connections
- Support for a positive work-life balance, including assistance with family and childcare matters
The position is available immediately. The initial contract is for 2 years with the possibility of extension.
The Max Planck Society strives for gender and diversity equality. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.
