Research focus: Generative AI for Scientists

About us

The research group for IT Service Management, Development and Operations in Garching (Munich) has an opening for academic staff with the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree. The work of the group, which is led by Prof. Dr. Ingo Weber, focuses on methods for the development, operation, and analysis of complex information systems. Especially regarding their architecture, development, integration, and distribution (DevOps), as well as quantitative and qualitative analysis of such systems. A recent focus is on AI Engineering, i.e., the design, development, and operation of AI-based software systems.

The open position is in the context of a 3-year project, which investigates how Generative AI can improve the work of scientists. Generative AI and particularly large language models (LLMs) are assumed to lead to increased productivity in many areas of today's work life. Scientific research as an area of work is no exception: the potential of LLM-based tools to assist in the daily work of scientists across disciplines is evident. More details on the context can be found in our recent publication “LLMs for Science: Usage for Code Generation and Data Analysis”, available at https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.16733 .
