Job description:
In the Execution Environments and Innovative Methods department, we look at AI from the perspective of challenging platforms on which AI is trained and used, such as embedded solutions or quantum computers. We also conduct research into novel approaches for AI architectures.
As part of our quantum computing group, you will develop methods for quantum machine learning (QML) and evaluation procedures for QML approaches. You will verify these in different application contexts.
In particular, you will be involved in measuring the capabilities of quantum methods in comparison with classical methods, the implementation of problems in quantum circuits and the development and execution of programmes on quantum computers in combination with classical pre- and post-processing. Various quantum computer architectures and simulators are available at DLR for this purpose.
Our interdisciplinary team answers cross-sectional research questions on QML in all of DLR's focal areas - in aeronautics, space, energy and transport. We therefore cooperate closely with experts from other departments of the Institute for AI Security and our external partners from science and industry.
Your results and findings are essential for future applications and to identify applications for novel AI methods. This allows to deploy new ML and AI methods to ambitious application classes in a responsible manner.
The opportunity to work on a PhD thesis can be offered, when the suitable qualification is given. Prerequisite for employment at DLR is security clearance in accordance with the German Security Clearance Act (SÜG) and the willingness to undergo a security clearance in accordance with §8 ff SÜG.
This research center is part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. With more than 42,000 employees and an annual budget of over € 5 billion, the Helmholtz Association is Germany's largest scientific organisation.
