Offer Description

Area of research:

Scientific / postdoctoral posts,Sonstiges

Job description:

The Institute of Planetary Research carries out and supports research programs exploring our solar system, the formation and development of planets, their moons and minor solar system bodies. To this end, the Department of Planetary Sensor Systems develops and builds scientific instruments for NASA, ESA and JAXA planetary exploration missions. Your tasks will include the electrical systems engineering for the Central Control Unit (CCU) of ESA’s EnVision mission, which aims at exploring Venus and gaining insights into why Venus and Earth have developed so differently. The EnVision CCU is the central interface between the three EnVision spectrometers and the EnVision satellite and consists of a power supply unit and a data processing unit.

Your activities will focus on the following tasks:

  • You will develop a technical concept for the EnVision CCU and coordinate the electrical interfaces with the project partners and ESA.
  • You will define the technical requirements for the CCU and develop a plan for verifying the unit. You will define the necessary analyses in the areas of FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) and FDIR (Failure Detection, Isolation and Recovery) as well as the test criteria for the necessary verification tests.
  • You will monitor the compliance of the technical specifications and support the project partners in carrying out and evaluating the verification tests and analyses.
  • You will plan and support the integration of the CCU on satellite level and ensure that the spectrometers and the CCU fulfil the mission requirements.
  • You will be responsible for the overall technical concept of the CCU and will represent it to the project partners and ESA.

This research center is part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. With more than 42,000 employees and an annual budget of over € 5 billion, the Helmholtz Association is Germany's largest scientific organisation.
