Job description:

The focus of the DLR Institute for Data Science in Jena is to find solutions for the major challenges of the digitalisation age. The research focuses on the areas of data extraction and mobilisation, data management and preparation, and data analysis and intelligence.

The Working Group “Metadata Management” addresses topics in the area of semantic descriptions of data, development of ontologies and semantically enhanced systems. These topics are addressed in both DLR-internal as well third-party-funded projects.

The advertised position is in particular concerned with quality assurance of ontologies and knowledge graphs. It is part of a project in the transport domain. Within this projects data sources and models of different partners are combined to support planning processes and finding answers to current challenges.

Your task is the development to support the development of ontologies in this area. Besides the definition of vocabularies and data models, this especially includes the quality assurance of results. You will extend and evaluate an existing tool that checks different quality aspects of ontologies. You will play an important role in the FAIRification of data and models and, hence, secure their reusability!

Your tasks include

  • requirement engineering together with our project partners
  • literature research and identifying state-of-the-art approaches in the area of data quality of ontologies and knowledge graphs
  • development of vocabularies and ontologies in the transport domain
  • further development of a quality assurance pipeline for ontologies and knowledge graphs
  • evaluation and improvement of approaches and implementations
  • publication and presentation of results at national and international conferences and within the project consortium
  • supervision of students
