Offer Description

As part of the SHAPINCELLFATE (ERC-SynergyGrant) project, the laboratory of Dr. Matthieu Piel is recruiting a full-time doctoral student to contribute to research aimed at understanding how changes in cell shape affect cell behavior and function immune and cancerous. This is part of the lab's overall project to study cell proliferation and migration when space is limited, particularly how physical constraints affect the cell cortex, nuclear envelope, cell growth and cell division.
The doctoral student will work within the team of Dr Matthieu Piel: Cellular Biology of Polarity and Division Systems (BIO6 team of UMR144 - Joint Research Unit in Cellular Biology and Cancer). This team studies different processes at the cellular level: migration, growth and division. The team focuses on the dynamics of the cytoskeleton and organelles (including the nucleus) and their link with mechanosensation. They are developing quantitative tools to control the main physical and chemical parameters of the cellular microenvironment and study the behavior of immune and cancer cells.
The doctoral student will have at their disposal the platform of the Institut Pierre-Gilles de Gennes for nano and micro-fabrication techniques, combined with high quality quantitative microscopy available in the laboratory as well as on the imaging platforms of the Institut Curie, including a Nikon Imaging Center and the cellular and tissue imaging platform (PICT). The other technological platforms of the Institut Curie will also be available and cover most current methods in cellular and molecular biology (single cell omics, bioinformatics, sequencing, etc.). The doctoral student will benefit from the exceptional scientific environment and collaborative culture of the Institut Curie, its Research center and its hospital which are focused on breast cancer, as well as the numerous surrounding research institutes located in the heart of Paris on the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève. In addition to highlighting new fundamental concepts of cellular behavior, this multidisciplinary approach leads to the development of new tools with potential applications in biomedical research.

Study of the impact of nuclear envelope mechanics on chromatin mechanics and vice versa
