Offer Description
INRAE presentation

The French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment (INRAE) is a public research establishment under the dual authority of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Research. It is a community of 12,000 people with more than 200 research units and 42 experimental units located throughout France.

The institute is among the world leaders in agricultural and food sciences, in plant and animal sciences, and is 11th in the world in ecology and environment. INRAE’s main goal is to be a key player in the transitions necessary to address major global challenges. In the face of the increase in population, climate change, scarcity of resources and decline in biodiversity, the institute develops solutions for multiperformance agriculture, high quality food and sustainable management of resources and ecosystems.

Work environment, missions and activities

Nature and purpose of the research project to be developed and related activities :
The candidate will develop a research project of which the challenge will be to characterise the immunotoxicity of the exposome and evaluate the molecular and cellular bases, as well as the physiological and pathophysiological consequences. The major hurdles to be overcome concern the definition of multiple exposures, the methodological approaches to be developed (multi- and trans-disciplinary), and the characterisation of the mechanisms involved.
The chemical exposome has been the subject of numerous studies; however, taking into account the complexity of the exposome in all its forms (chemical, biological, nutritional, psychological) is a challenge. For example, attention could be paid to the endogenous stress factors triggered following exposure including nutritional stress or even exogenous stress factors such as psychological stress, which are currently rarely considered as a component of the exposome in clinical studies and fundamental research.
The ambition of this project consists in (i) innovating, establishing, and defining the most pertinent study models in vivo and in vitro of the co-exposure considered, on site or in collaboration, and (ii) decrypting the mechanisms of action involved to ultimately propose biomarkers of effect.

Nature and purpose of the teaching project :
The Toxalim unit is a joint research unit with ENVT; this will facilitate the integration of the recruitment in two teaching modules taught at ENVT that fall within the unit’s project. Furthermore, both Toxalim and ENVT are part of the Doctoral School of Ecological, Agronomic, Veterinary and Bioengineering Science - University of Toulouse.
The person recruited will be in charge of creating new lessons in immunotoxicity and multiple exposure of which there are few due to the absence of compulsory regulatory procedures in toxicological or ecotoxicological trials carried out for the marketing of new inputs. This teaching innovation is necessary in view of the risks linked to the exposome and its immunotoxicological impact on animal and human health, particularly through the consumption of contaminant residues in meat products.
Consequently, the teaching innovations will consist in creating lessons in the veterinary curriculum entitled "Multiple exposure: impact on animal and human health" within the General pharmacy, pharmacology, and toxicology teaching unit. An ultimate objective of the teaching will be its application in veterinary medication. The number of teaching hours will be 27 tutorial-equivalent hours. It will also include teaching within the joint UPS-ENVT BioTox Master's entitled "Exposome: risk assessment and regulations". An ultimate objective of the teaching will concern taking into consideration multiple exposure scenarios at regulatory level. The number of teaching hours will be 19 tutorial-equivalent hours.

Funding and related resources :
Package ANR : 200 000€
Package INRAE : 176 400€
Total : 376 400€

Type of contract

Tenure-Track Junior Professor Chair enables recruitment of scientists based on a research and teaching project that lasts three years. At the end of this period, and following an assessment of your scientific achievements and professional capabilities, you may obtain a full-tenure position as Research Director (DR2).

A research and teaching agreement will specify the path you will follow towards full-tenure and enable you to acquire the qualifications necessary to become a full-tenure Research Director in your field.

You have until April 12, 2024to submit your application. Only candidates previously selected on file by the selection committee will be invited to the hearing.
