Offer Description

Research:

The Science et Ingénierie des Matériaux et Procédés (SIMAP) laboratory brings together physicists, mechanicists and chemists of materials and fluids to work on the design and development of materials and processes. With a staff of around 200 on the Grenoble East campus, the laboratory is attached to the CNRS, Grenoble INP and the UGA. The Génie Physique et Mécanique des Matériaux (GPM2) team is actively involved in metal additive manufacturing processes, from the design of materials to the characterization of their properties and microstructure. The team relies on commercial elaboration devices and prototypes developed in-house, which it instruments: local powder bed melting, in particular by laser.

Position description :

The post-doctoral work will focus on the properties of architectural structures (≪ lattice ≫ type structures) obtained by additive manufacturing (AF). The structures will be developed on a zirconium-based grade (Zr59.3Cu28.8Al10.4Nb1.5, at.%) whose ability to be developed by FA has already been demonstrated. Different types of architecture will be studied, such as conventional structures whose preferred mode of deformation is bending of the constituent beams, but also ≪ octet-truss ≫ structures whose preferred mode of deformation is tension/compression of the beams. The effect of the diameter of the constituent beams of the ≪ truss ≫ on the overall response of the architected structure will also be investigated, in particular their energy absorption capacity. Its architectural structures will also be produced on another shade in conjunction with VULKAM. The prerequisite for this work is to be able to demonstrate the ability to produce this glass by FA. This ability to identify FA parameters (laser power, scanning speed, layer thickness, etc.) will be achieved by first carrying out lasering tests on solid material. A sufficient quantity of material will then be processed by VULAKM and atomized (outsourced). AF will be outsourced and/or carried out on laser benches currently being set up in the laboratory. In all cases, the amorphous nature of the materials produced will be assessed by XRD, DSC and, if necessary, TEM. The possible presence of residual porosity will be studied by X-ray micro-tomography.
